Daniel 6:10
Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
Radical Thanksgiving
When Daniel knew, he refused to change his confession, in this scripture we see a powerful picture of what is called radical thanksgiving. Despite knowing that a decree had been signed, making it punishable by death to pray to anyone other than the king, Daniel refused to stop giving thanks to God. In fact, he continued to pray and give thanks three times a day, just as he had always done. Daniel’s actions show us that true thanksgiving is not just a feeling, but a way of life. It is a decision to prioritize our relationship with God above all else, even if it means facing danger or persecution.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Reflection and Challenge
Daniel’s radical thanksgiving is a challenge to every child of God today. Now to my question; Would you be willing to risk your life to give thanks to God? Or do you only give thanks when it is safe and convenient? Daniel’s example shows us that true thanksgiving is not just about what we say, but about what we do even when nobody is watching. It’s about being willing to take a stand for our faith, even if it means facing opposition or hardship.
2 Timothy 3:12
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Commitment to Radical Thanksgiving
Why am I saying this to us, let us make a commitment to practice radical thanksgiving, just like Daniel, when it is good, when it is bad, when we are promoted, when we are not promoted. Prioritize your thanksgiving to God above all else and give thanks to God no matter what. As we do, we can trust that God will be with us, just as He was with Daniel in the lion’s den. And we can know that our prayer of thanksgiving will be a source of strength and protection for us, no matter what challenges we face.
Hebrews 13:15
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Praise ye the Lord, Amen
